Influence isn’t always measured by who speaks the loudest. It’s measured by who gets invited into the conversation before decisions are made.
For the robotics and autonomous systems industry, those conversations have never mattered more.
Federal policy is shaping everything from defense acquisition and airspace integration to robotics, maritime autonomy, trusted supply chains, and America’s ability to compete globally. The organizations helping inform those decisions today will be better positioned to navigate, and capitalize on, the opportunities that emerge tomorrow.
That is where AUVSI creates value.
Our recent Hill Day demonstrated a clear point in time example of what effective advocacy looks like. More than 100 representatives from AUVSI member companies participated in more than 90 meetings with Members of Congress and congressional staff, bringing expertise from across the air, ground, maritime, robotics, cybersecurity, and advanced air mobility sectors directly into the policymaking process.
Those numbers tell an important story, but they don’t tell the whole story.
The real value isn’t the meetings themselves, it’s what those meetings represent.
Every conversation creates a relationship. Every relationship creates another opportunity for policymakers to call on industry experts when new legislation is drafted, regulations are developed, or emerging technologies require informed guidance. That access cannot be built overnight, and it cannot be created by any one company acting alone.
It is built through a trusted, credible association that represents the full robotics and autonomy ecosystem.
That credibility is what gives our members an advantage.
When companies engage through AUVSI, they aren’t simply adding their name to an organization. They gain access to the policymakers, regulators, defense leaders, and agency officials who are shaping the future of robotics and autonomous systems. They participate in the committees and working groups that develop industry consensus before AUVSI walks into congressional offices or federal agencies. They contribute their expertise to policy positions that carry far more weight because they reflect an entire industry, not a single commercial interest.
Just as importantly, members gain access to each other.
The relationships built through AUVSI often extend well beyond advocacy. Companies connect with potential customers, technology partners, suppliers, investors, and government stakeholders who share common challenges and opportunities. Those conversations frequently lead to collaborations that would never have happened otherwise.
This network is global. AUVSI represents organizations in more than 60 countries, creating opportunities for members to engage not only with U.S. decision-makers, but also with an international community advancing autonomy across every domain.
Access also means insight.
Members are often among the first to understand where policy is headed because they are part of the conversations shaping it. They hear directly from lawmakers, regulators, defense officials, and industry leaders. They gain context that helps them anticipate change rather than simply respond to it.
That matters in an industry where policy timelines increasingly influence investment decisions, product development, procurement strategies, and market opportunities.

That is the result of years spent building trusted relationships, convening experts, and providing policymakers with practical, technically informed solutions to complex challenges.
The future of autonomy will be shaped by innovation, but innovation alone isn’t enough. Progress depends on thoughtful policy, trusted relationships, and a community willing to engage before decisions are made.
Creating that access—and ensuring our members benefit from it every day—is one of AUVSI’s most important responsibilities.
