Business of Automated Mobility Forum: Day Two

AUVSI and SAE International today co-hosted the second and final day of the Business of Automated Mobility Forum. Attendees learned from standard-setters, technology developers, and other experts from across the automated mobility industry, including from companies operating in autonomous vehicles (AVs) and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). Below are highlights from discussions about the need to... Continue reading

Noise Pollution and Social Acceptance of UAM

Autonomous systems are transforming business and the economy, and their impact on the future will grow with increased integration into our daily lives. Recent advancements in urban air mobility (UAM) – autonomous systems that transport cargo and passengers at low altitudes in urban and suburban areas – are moving us toward a safer and more efficient transportation future. However, the momentum of this evolving industry also brings challenges posed by increased urban noise. AUVSI recently hosted an XPONENTIAL 2021... Continue reading

Amid quest for the perfect inertial sensors, Honeywell touts ‘game-changing’ accuracy of MEMS-based IMU in development

North Carolina-based Honeywell says lab tests of new MEMS inertial sensor technology are showing “game-changing” improvements in accuracy and power usage that could help to pave the way for longer-distance autonomous travel.   Inertial sensors are key to navigation when GPS technology fails, which can happen when buildings, rough terrain, water, frequency jamming or other obstacles block satellite signals. The sensors enable unmanned vehicles to determine...
