Autonomy, endurance, and platform performance often dominate the conversation around unmanned systems. But as UxS move towards operational deployment at scale, those capabilities alone do not determine whether a system is mission-ready.
Different platforms and mission sets impose very different requirements. An attritable UAS must balance communications capability against weight, cost, and fleet scalability. A persistent USV may have the size and power to carry multiple communications systems, but still face challenges maintaining continuity and managing those links as operating conditions change. Across both domains, OEMs must consider how autonomy, communications, operator oversight, and broader mission integration work together as part of a complete operational system.
